179317 2003-09-30 23:53:00 Mine aren't actually Aztech brand, but the Aztech driver just works.

Mine work all the time, they dial up, connect, and work, except the speaker wont' shut up after it connects. I also can't turn the speaker volume down. That's the only problem I have with them.

I don't think I'll go as far as throwing it into the rubbish bin - maybe attack it with a large hammer some day. :D

179318 2003-10-01 00:10:00 There is a little app made and distributed by connexant that identifies any modem using there chipset.I cant remember what it was called,But i used it with excellent results a couple years ago and i do think i remember seeing a link to it from this forum some time in the last 6 months... metla (154)

179320 2003-10-01 03:46:00 Thanks Metla. I think I have run the Listmodem program before, which is where I probably got the detailed info about my modem from.

Below is what it returned:

179321 2003-10-01 06:36:00 on the modem there should be a number something like pt-3519 or similar (I think someone said this in an earlier post). If it's got a 'pt' number on it you can get your driver from www.puretek.com.tw pompeymike (4601)
179322 2003-10-01 13:34:00 Hi somebody,
I also had the same modem with similar problems.
When I switched from ME to XP Pro the modem speaker screeched continually and I couldnt get it to shut up. Tried the other generics from conexant with no luck.

Ended up using, successfully, this one:
Fujitsu LB RWModem V90 56K E

Available from the list in the add hardware wizard.
A few other Press F1ers have used that one 2.
Luck

179323 2003-10-01 22:17:00 If all else fails, put a blank plug in the rear socket and usually cuts out that screeching sound. Try plugging in a pair of headphones to check before going to Dick Smith for a plug :) Pheonix (280)
179324 2003-10-01 22:58:00 Thanks for the idea Phoenix, however that's what I'm currently doing (except I'm using a Jack-Jack cable which simply isn't plugged into anything at the other end), as I stated in my original post. somebody (208)
179325 2003-10-01 22:59:00 Thanks Sparky. I'll give it a go. somebody (208)
