179663 2003-10-01 22:52:00 I have Acer Travelmate 200T Laptop, running Windows ME, Explorer 6 and it has just started feezing on boot up just before wallpaper appears and it will not shut down or close through Cyrl/Alt/Delete. Have to close and then go through scan disk when rebooted. Then Dial Up connection box appears on its own accord at regular intervals. Does anyone have a thought? The only change I have made lately is to download Free History Cleaner? Thanks. bruciebear (1478)
179664 2003-10-01 23:08:00 Sounds very much like you have some unwanted passengers on board.

Have you run Adaware? Search for it on Google, its a free download.

It may be that your "Free History Cleaner" or other downloads has installed some adware/spyware.

179667 2003-10-02 01:03:00 Your problem sounds similar to mine with XP Home. Sometimes the the 'Welcome' screen freezes, other times it boots up ok.

I am unable to use the keyboard when the screen freezes tho, so can only turn the power off for a while then try rebooting.

I have not installed anything that sounds like the 'History Cleaner' so can't blame that.

179668 2003-10-02 04:15:00 Might be History Cleaner although I do have Adaware so I clean cookies etc out daily. I strange thing with Adaware is that it flies along but it stops and struggles to move on " Windows/System/directx/websetup/ not sure if that means anything?Cheers everyone. bruciebear (1478)
179669 2003-10-02 04:48:00 I would lose History Cleaner for a start, personal opinion and either do the clean up of your folders manually or get something like WindowWasher that does a heap of cleaning and does not talk home either.

Websetup, have a look at the google search link below, I don't know myself what this is but it appears to have various security issues, whether it in anyway is your problem or not................
