2003-10-01 09:38:00 | I have just purchased a new PC & want to transfer all user settings & internet settings from the old PC to the new 1, what is the best method to do this? | scomat (4668) | |
2003-10-01 09:53:00 | If you are using XP then you can use the files and settings transfer wizard option under Start -> Programs ->Accessories ->System Tools for the other os's you'll have to transfer them manually. Your email setting can be exported from Outlook express under Tools -> Accounts and then open the address book and export that as well. as for you internet account setting you'll have to write them down. Copy your favourites folder (location dependant on OS)

2003-10-01 11:04:00 | Very interesting thread here guys, as I am trying to do the same thing. I am trying to transfer data from Win 200 to XP. Could someone please explain to a greenie like me how to hook the two pc's together to start with. Have been transferring all data to cd so far, but can't find a way to save the e-mails. Will be watching this with interest. | Tony S. (450) | |
2003-10-01 11:42:00 | the way i copied all my emails in my inbox or outbox for that matter was by openin outlook, right cliking on the "Inbox" tab on the left hand menu of OE, now while right cliking i choose Properties from the menu, it gives the root of the Inbox file, which should be something like: C:\Documents and Settings\XXXXX\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{XXXXXXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXXXXXXXXXX}\Microsoft\Outlook Express dependin on ur OS and the X's stand for the user name, and the second lot of x's are the windows string of numbers that are generic for every comp. Now just copy that string u obtain from the metod outline above and past it in the "Run" dialog box in the start menu, and ur in that folder now copy the Inbox.dbx file or Outbox.dbx file or wotever u want to back up and and place it on like a cd-r or zipdrive, and presto u have backed up ur emails. To put them back into OE run the same string obtained above, and just paste ur old Inbox.dbx file replacing ur new one that is pre-installed on the other comp and there u have it, backed up and moved to new comp.

Have been transferring all data to cd so > far, but can't find a way to save the e-mails. To connect two computers together find the Networking FAQ at the link top right of this page (the FAQs may take some time to load) for information. To transfer your emails do a search for *.dbx files on each computer and copy them from your old computer to your new computer. Be aware that if you have any emails already on your new computer they will be replaced by the old *.dbx files and emails after copying. You may wish to move the new computer's emails to a new folder created in Outlook Express (name it Hold, perhaps) until the copy operation has been performed. It is a good idea to backup all *.dbx files on both computers beforehand (copy the *.dbx files to a CD). |

2003-10-02 04:59:00 | Tony. To transfer you files and setting from 2000 to XP put the XP cd into your drive while running 2000 then when the options window comes up choose Additional features (I think that what it is called) then you can choose the file and settings transfer wizzard and it will transfer what ever you select to. | Odin (227) | |
