179555 2003-10-01 08:19:00 Often, my floppy drive goes funny, as if it's trying to access a disk that's not there. And it's very persistent! I have to stick a disk in it to shut it up. Sometimes restarting the computer fixes it, but it will start again at a seemingly random moment.

I don't think it's a software problem, as I've scanned for viruses with Norton (up-to-date), run Adaware just in case, but it hasn't helped.

This is an ageing Dell PIII 733MHz. (Past warranty, obviously.) Dell refuse to help.

179556 2003-10-01 10:49:00 you may have recently saved a file to the floppy drive and it's still trying to access it; here's 2 things that I would try:

1. Clear the documents menu - right click on the taskbar and you can clear the document history from the properties box.

2. Go into device manager and remove the floppy drive entry, restart the machine and it will redetect the drive. This may solve it.

good luck!

179557 2003-10-01 22:09:00 I should also mention that this has happened for months, and I have WinXP Pro.

I've just tried that. I guess it's a waiting game to see if it pops up again. Let's see.
