| 179624 | 2003-10-01 13:20:00 | Hi all, I've just installed MSN Messenger 6.0, and now want to be rid of Windows Messenger 5.0. So have gone about the instructions on Microsoft's website, and that seem s to be all good and well. Only problem now is I still have the icon for Windows Messenger at the top of my Internet Explorer toolbar (I realise I can remove this manually), and some other remnants. My main problem is yes, it has disappeared from Outlook Express, but now Outlook Express takes most of a minute and a half to load, due to it thinking about loading Windows Messenger and being told not to. Anybody got any ideas on how to speed up the loading of poor wee Outlook Express? And also any ideas on how to be completely rid of this built in XP pest....... Many thanks Craig. :D |

| 179625 | 2003-10-01 13:43:00 | Well, it would help if you tell us how you removed Windows Messenger. Did you simply rename the C:\Program Files\Messenger folder to something else? Did you go through and actually un-install Windows Messenger? Try enabling the following settings: Click Start -Run type in: gpedit.msc now, click User Configuration -Administrative Templates -Windows Components -Windows Messenger Enable both of the two options and it should prevent it from looking for Messenger.
