But never mind:) There is another way to access both XP and win98 on different drives, even better than those suggested by Merlin, it so happens Im doing exactly the same thing at this very time. That is, setting up XP Pro and transfering years worth of stuff from a Win98SE drive. However I do have hard drive caddies so that either a drive with XP can be plugged in and booted, or a drive with Win98 ditto. But best of all Im also using a drive with a current copy of Win98SE on it, the drive set to slave, and that can be plugged in together with the Win XP drive. That way executables and data can be transfered directly by drag and drop from one drive to the other. |

Basicly set the 98se disk as secondary master on seperate IDE Channel and use the BIOS to set the boot order the boot disk, xp disk being the boot disk. After install the programs on the xp disk copy data across from the 98 disk then format the 98 disk and use as a data only disk. BTW I did this for a linux install, I was able to mount the 98 disk from linux but because 98 cant see ext file systems was unable to see the the linux disk from 98, but changing the boot order on start up I was able to use the os of choice |

| 180164 | 2003-10-03 20:59:00 | Thats a good method beama. In my case I dont have a spare secondary IDE connection available to do that, at least not without re-arranging CD drives and removing one. | Terry Porritt (14) | ||
