180157 2003-10-03 09:27:00 Hi all,

I am having a problem with Win Media Player 9 that seems to have become corrupt.
When I try to use it it brings up a error message that it wants to send to Microsoft. However this gives me no clue as to what the problem is.
Having sent this or closing it down WMP 9 just closes on me.
I have other programs that can play the media WMP 9 plays so this would not be to much of a concern except that I also have Microsoft Encarta.
This seems to tie into WMP 9 so now I cant play any audio or video from this.

My desire is to uninstall the player and start over. however Microsoft in its "Why does nobody like us" wisdom has not a uninstall optiion for XP !
I believe it is possable to use a "hack" to uninstall the program but I am keen to hear any ideas PC World readers have

Thanks
Paul

180158 2003-10-03 11:51:00 MS suggest doing a system restore to remove it.

It has also been suggested that you can uninstall it while in safe mode but can't confirm this.

If you want a product from Microsoft that doesn't suck wait for the day they make vacuum cleaners.

180159 2003-10-03 13:02:00 You CAN uninstall WMP 9. I have, by following the details here:

www.tweakxp.com

the command, in start / run / command, is

RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\INF\wmp.inf,Uninstall

or

RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection C:\WINDOWS\INF\wmp.inf,Uninstall
