| 180565 | 2003-10-05 02:20:00 | Found the following earlier, probably more relevent to the Northern Hemisphere, but who knows?? Several AV companies have issued a priority warning for a new worm called Swen . A, also known as various iterations of the Gibe worm . There are no indications of that this worm is high impact in terms of breadth of propagation as of this time . It appears the warning was issued because the worm does so many things, it is seen as especially dangerous . Resource links at the bottom can provide specifics on the effects of the worm . It spreads through various different pathways: e-mail attachment, network shares, Kazaa and IRC primarily . The executable name is random . | 180566 | 2003-10-05 02:30:00 | Where have you been the last two weeks. This has been running wild in NZ and it pretends to be an update from Microsoft. Every ISP in NZ has given warnings about it. securityresponse.symantec.com |

The info I do get about viruses, good progs/bad progs, etc . . . is mostly from pressf1'ers when I do go online . In fact this is the first place I go to if I need to know something about my PC . Where am I going with this . Simply, I didn't know about the virus so if Kiwitas had not mentioned it I would not have known about it . Ty Kiwitas, the news may well have been 2 weeks late but it certainly served its purpose and informed me . - aNtzy |
