180498 2003-10-05 01:23:00 I can't remember for sure, but was there a "Terms of Use" for signing up to PF1? From memory, there was no such thing.

I think it would be handy to have a simple policy which users have to agree to in order to sign up for this forum. It then defines what people can and can't say, and means that users agree that they would be banned from the forum if they break the rules. It will definetely reduce the abuse to other users, which I have unfortunately seen a lot of recently, and am very sick of.

What do you guys think?

180499 2003-10-05 01:38:00 Yea and something to the effect of 'your question will not be answered if you do not provide all the necessary details (OS,computer specs etc.)' and 'you will be banned if you speak in horrible english that doesn't make sense (includes spelling)' :D PoWa (203)
180500 2003-10-05 01:42:00 They would probably be more along the "Guidelines on getting your question answered" than being "Rules" - but good point.

Maybe a model "sample post" which has all the necessary information posters should use could be emailed to new users when they sign up?

One thing that should be change on the front page is this:

"Leave a message about your hardware, software or internet problem, and our server will automatically email you when one of our advisors, or another reader, answers your query"

In the time I have been on Press F1 I have not see " advisor" part from Robo & Bruce Buckman and a few other PF 1 Adam’s but I do not think they count as "advisors" could they??? They are mods & Adam....

And also you should remove:

"and our server will automatically email you when one of our advisors, or another reader, answers your query"

Because that does not happen "automatically" you have to set it up so it does that, so it is miss leading people....

what do you think?????

180503 2003-10-05 02:27:00 It's not really a necessity - just treat others as you wish them to treat you and your ok.
A thread did come up (last year from memory), where the topic was getting people to put their OS and relevant specs into their settings and then the server would automatically attach them to the thread but the problem came when there was more than one computer involved (as far as I can remember)..
Also you wouldn't want to know someone's specs if they're posting OT.

At the end of the day just adding "please remember to tell us what OS you are running, Ram size, etc to your thread in order to help the users aid you better" when it comes to posting would suffice.

PoWa:
You forget that not every one know a lot about computers like me & you and a few other pf1 people! & There are people who are new to computer e.g. beetle etc... Who do not know this information or who do not understand it yet, that is why we ask nicely what OS etc... They have

That is very stupid idea!!!! :| X-(

If you cannot understand there post ASK nicely what they mean, it is very simple!!

And if they have bad English / spelling it is they problem Not Your or anyone else problem!.

And if you or anyone else cannot understand what they are trying to say ASK nicely what they mean, it is very simple!!

My 5 cents for today

180506 2003-10-05 03:01:00 I think there should be a bit about not expecting a complete answer in 5 mins. Sometimes more info is needed/requested, and not everybody is online all the time. The one person who may be able to answer the question may only login twice a week.
Also I notice some of our experts tend to go for the unanswered questions. In other words it sometimes takes time, and feedback from both sides to work out the answer to a problem

180507 2003-10-05 03:11:00 Minor problem is that users don't have to agree to it when they sign up. Also, as Bruce posted that in June, it isn't seen by new users who only signed up recently. somebody (208)
