180227 2003-10-04 01:07:00 Hi.
I remeber reading an article a while back about a system (it was a piece of hardware and a program to go with it) that connected to your phone line, and when you were on interent (dial up) if someone rang - it told you on the PC and you could disconect, get them to take a message and have it emailed to you, or just "block" it - and stay on the net.

It cost about $200 - and you didn't pay any fees.

Can anyone remeber wot it was called - and where i can get it (they had a website)

Thanks

180228 2003-10-04 01:14:00 I've heard of it, but it's not available in NZ (not compatible with our exchanges or something). It's a US thing.

I read the article in the NZ herald (might have been dominion...) and also on a NZ webpage.

Does anyone here use any of these?
Anygood?

Cheers

180232 2003-10-04 05:20:00 There are heaps of free ones on the net, but they probably wont work in NZ cos they were made for the US, but its worth a try. vk_dre (195)

180234 2003-10-04 05:45:00 DSE have the units, $149. Cheaper than the $199 in the link.
Catalogue XH3491

However none of these devices can or will work unless you subscribe to "call waiting" service from Telecom.

Without "call waiting" there is nothing that can alert you to an incoming call, as your line is completely unavailable to anyone trying to ring in.
