180276 2003-10-04 00:41:00 Hi,

I have a Cannon BJC-3000 printer on win98 (lpt) and often when i print documents the printer will print have the page fine and then towards the end of the document it will sometimes not print black halfway horizontally through a line - kinda like a strikeout or its below the line or above it. I just replaced the print cartridges (i got the wrong back cartridge but it fits in - and it was doing it before the new cartridge) i have run all the maintance tasks it can do - yet still have the problem.

i have to change the colour of the text to a very dark blue for it to print properly

180277 2003-10-04 02:24:00 Pehaps you ran out of ink in the first cartridge and have and have replaced it with the wrong one. (in other words start off by getting the correct cartridge). Does the printer have a cleaning cycle?(see manual). Failing that the printer head may be damaged and need replacement . Rod ger (316)
180278 2003-10-04 02:28:00 Is the black printing from one cartridge or is it generated from the different colours? Rod ger (316)
180279 2003-10-04 03:16:00 Doesn't that model have a printhead as part of the ink cartridge? I have an idea it does.

This is a bit of a puzzle. ?:| Read the cartridge installation instructions. I wonder if you have not removed the air inlet sealing tape, so that towards the end of a page, the ink can't flow. Except ... just a few head holes which don't work ... which indicates an electrical problem. But that should be consistent. :-(

Have a look at the contacts in the cartridge holder. They should be clean. You could try very gently rubbing them with a cotton bud or something like that.

180280 2003-10-04 05:59:00 From a user review on the web:

The main drawback of this printer is Canon's design for getting ink to the print head .

Because the ink has to seep through a sponge to get to the print head, the amount of ink flow is limited .

For instance, if you were to print something that had, say, heavy black in one area, it would print okay for the first few lines, but much more than that and it'll start leaving blank streaks across your paper where there wasn't enough ink to feed the print head . . . effectively ruining your print .

It seems it has a separate print head? and this is where the problem may lie .

180281 2003-10-10 04:36:00 Maybe your print heads need cleaning. Try using the software that came with the printer. splatman41 (68)
180282 2003-10-10 04:45:00 i said i used all the maintanence tasks it came with (yes including print head cleaning) MrBeef (342)
180283 2003-10-10 04:52:00 sorry splatman41 (68)
180284 2003-10-10 05:23:00 I would suspect the print head thermal driver is getting tired, or is damaged . or is blocked to a point that the utility for cleaning is unable to correct it .

I would assume each colour has its dedicated "nozzles" which squirt ink thats been suddely heated and expanded by the microscopic thermal driver .

If the print head runs dry, and the printer continues, the thermal driver can overheat and become damaged .

Having the wrong cartridge is also a high risk for further damage, as it can give the wrong ink formulation and/or flow .
