180237 2003-10-10 02:22:00 Sorry about bringing this back up.

But I went to the american site for this - and it works out way cheaper than the NZ one - only NZ$85.
I emailed them asking if it'd work, heres wot they said:

Catch-A-Call works by "listening" to the call-waiting frequency from the telephone company. The unit is set to hear a 440 Hz frequency which is the frequency of the United States. In order for Catch-A-Call to work in your country, the unit needs to be altered to hear the particular call-waiting frequency of your country. We need to know what the Call Waiting Frequency is so that we can alter the Catch-A-Call for your use in your country. There is a $20 charge to do so. Otherwise, you can order one and experiment with it yourself. It may work just fine, or you may need to try and alter the frequency on your own. You can place your order directly through our website at www.catchacallonline.com.

What do you think?

180239 2003-10-12 23:37:00 Facts:

You have to subscribe to Telecoms "call waiting" service, and pay for it. Otherwise it cannot work

Its probably the wron8 frequency, but you would need to determine what the frequency actually is in NZ first.

Its probably not Telepermitted here, so you run a risk its not going to perform properly on the Network here. Technically you are not allowed to connect it unless its Telepermitted (the process costs several thousand $). This is why the NZ ones are dearer. All those costs have to be recovered over the few that get sold here.

The US uses a diferent dial tone and ringing cadence to NZ, so overall compatability is unknown.

Thanks
I think I'll play it safe and pay the extra to get a NZ one.

Thanks guys

180241 2003-10-13 01:15:00 I think it works out cheaper having a second phone line?

Or better yet, investing in ADSL.

180242 2003-10-13 01:38:00 yeah, it is cheaper than a second line.

I can't get ADSL becuase my exchange ain't been updated so it can work on there :(

I can get Satelite - tho, you still need a modem for uploading.

But i here that BCL and telcom and ihug are releasing a wirless option in Taranaki on Nov 1st - but this will be to expesnive i'd say.
