| 180901 | 2003-10-06 15:28:00 | I am trying to reformat a PC using 98se that I can't boot from a floppy, the boot sequence must be set to boot to hard drive before floppy, the floppy drive is working after startup but not during, when I tried to check order in BIOS I found it has a password on access. Will removing the battery reset the BIOS to no password. The BIOS is AMI I am having trouble finding the motherboard model, not too much info on it.I know the PC is about 8years old 400mz built by Macrocom in CHCH. ANY help thanks, John. |

| 180902 | 2003-10-06 19:19:00 | Removing the battery will reset all BIOS settings to default but it can take a long time for the power to drain from the BIOS chip. I tried this once and left the battery out over night but after putting it back in the BIOS settings will still the same! Might have to leave it out for about 24 hours. It would be easier if you could use the Clear BIOS settings jumper on the motherboard. It is usually placed near the battery or BIOS chip and you usually just have to move the jumper from say pins 1 & 2 to 2 & 3 for a couple of seconds then back again. Another option to try is hold down the insert key on the keyboard and then power up the PC and keep holding down the insert key until it has done the memory check etc. Hopefully this will force the BIOS to load the defaults. |

| 180904 | 2003-10-07 21:17:00 | That reset jumper is very useful if you stuff up your startup like I did yesterday tweaking my bios very upsetting after my PC wouldnt boot up as I had changed the fan warning setting to on ?? Also if you reset your memory settings on a older PC it can stuff up the startup as well I found out on a mates PC he had sd 100 ram and it couldnt take cas 2 settings |
