180962 2003-10-06 23:38:00 I have a friend with a new PC with XP Pro on it. Whenever he re-boots, the CMOS setup screen appears. I am guessing there is something not right about the setup which it is why it is activating.

Any ideas about where to look and what to do?

180963 2003-10-07 02:16:00 Next time, make sure to "Save and Exit" from the setup screen. Until you do that, it will never give up. :D

When the setup is saved, a checksum is saved with it. The checksum is tested each time the BIOS is entered, and if it is not right, it usually indicates something wrong.

One reason for this can be a dead battery, but if the computer is new that's unlikely, and the newer BIOSs have a check (and an error message) for low batttery.
