| 181415 | 2003-10-08 09:35:00 | Hi I have just moved into a flat and am setting up a computer network with my flatmate, i'm using a crossover cable, and we are trying to share an internet connection, we have got the network set-up and can share files and folders but when it comes to an internet connection, the client ( or guest) computer cannont see the internet and IE says detecting proxy settings then comes up with the page cannont be displayed. the Host computer IP address is 192.168.0.1 with a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0, when we set-up the other computer to 192.168.0.2 with same IP address it doesnt work, and when we run the XP networking wizard, it changtes the guest ip something strange with a subnet mask of 255.255.0.0 also the speeds of both our computers in boot up time have drop considerably and performace on windows xp has slowed as well Does anybody have any suggestions, we were going to kick it in hte guts and chuck on windows 2000 as we though it might be more stable |

| 181418 | 2003-10-09 06:27:00 | In XP Pro the networked one under the LAN icon/properties/TCP/IP select manually give it an ip and under preferred DNS type in 192.168.0.1 again, and also under default gateway. THEN the networked one should get on the net. And an easier way to share folders, is to turn on use simple file sharing.. If you leave it on Automaticallly give an ip, it'll generate random ips on every reboot! | Spacemannz (808) | ||
