1348045 2013-07-05 04:13:00 Got an HP Touchsmart610 here with some disk probs but chkdsk seems to have fixed those.

However, notice it has been trying to update to Win 7 SP1 for months without success. This one sounds tricky as it might be a corrupt bcd file.

Have tried disabling webroot's screening (not sure this stops them!), checked the 100MB SYSTEM partition is active and given it a drive letter but still no-go.

I am cruising around the outside as I am scared of the other suggestion, namely, to get into system recovery and run bootrec /rebuildbcd

At least it boots fine now so I don't want to brick it!!

Anyone been there? How likely is the bcd rebuild to stuff up?

PS This is NOT a dual boot. Stock HP jobbie.

1348046 2013-07-05 04:34:00 It means , the SP1 installer can’t access the Windows system partition

Try this (windows.microsoft.com)

1348047 2013-07-05 04:54:00 Yea, Speedy, that is the bit I was scared of!! I am really going to have to bite the bullet and try the rebuild od the bcd file, I guess.

My concern is stuffing the boot process. If that happens, a C: image restore isn't going to fix the boot problem is it?? Or am I being too nervous??!!

1348048 2013-07-05 05:02:00 If the image is the same thing as whats on it now it may do the same thing. Not much else you can do unless you format (whether that works or not is something else)! Speedy Gonzales (78)
1348049 2013-07-05 05:11:00 Well, good news (I hope). I got into recovery mode and dear old HP had its own menu items there, one of which was "Repair Startup". Clicked on that, some clicking and whirring then restart and retry the SP1 update. It is 66% through Installing so it is actually working now. Woo Hoo.

Ta, Speedy.
