A good fresh one will show more, ~3.2v open circuit. Note sometimes the battery can be fresh but the battery holder can be the problem! I had a battery issue on my own machine, I replaced the battery and no change. When I took a closer look at the holder I saw the little spring contact for negative terminal had black crud on it. After cleaning it, no problems since. That was months ago. Battery holder may even have a cold solder joint. Edit: So set it up on the bench, booted into windows and set some music playing. An hour later it just turned off, no shutdown just off. So I guess I've been blaming the case unfairly. I'm back to suspecting the motherboard is faulty. I guess it may well be. I don't know of random powering off from a flat battery. That or the PSU has some issue |

It was very loose and easy to remove and the motherboard manual in very poor English explains you'll have boot problems if it's not installed. I stole one off an ancient motherboard that is a much tighter fit and am currently on the 2nd loop through of Rio Grande Mud (put music on repeat to keep it active so it won't sleep). It'll be a few hours before I think I'm onto something and a few days/ weeks before I stop thinking it's possibly still faulty but fingers crossed. I've gotta go out for a couple hours soon so we'll see if it's still running when I return. |
