2013-01-24 13:24:00 | What is the Free one that's good as some of the paid ones ? Where did I say that?:illogical Anyway, I've decided to try Nod32's free trial and am currently running it on my laptop as of now for the next 30 days instead of MSE. I'll see how it goes.

I'll see how it goes. Post # 14 I'm still using MSE. I don't feel the need to have to pay for something when there's a perfectly good free alternative. Thats why I asked which one you were referring to. :) |

2013-01-24 21:57:00 | Had another experience here, same as Wainuitech had, with Nortons. Laptop comes in running the latest version of Norton Internet Security but the thing was badly infected. Removed Norton and installed NOD32 and before it even had a chance to update itself with the latest defs it was picking up stuff. Now the install of NOD32 was probably about 2 months out of date and it was still picking up stuff that an up-to-date Norton let through. :D

2013-01-25 21:40:00 | NOD32 updates ALOT. But I really haven't noticed any difference on my laptop, but I admit it doesn't use much resources, but neither does MSE. I think after the 30 day trial I'll just go back to MSE. | goodiesguy (15316) | |
2013-01-25 22:53:00 | Nod32 updates because theres new definitions all the time, what would you rather have,a program thats upto date or one thats days or even weeks out of date when new infections are produced many times each day ? As for resources, Nod uses less than MSE. The time you may not notice is if the PC is reasonably powerful and has resources to spare. Have you set nod to work to its full potential, scheduled scans at a time that suits yourself, set a time it goes looking for updates, I always set them to hourly to go look -- Once a few years back Nod updated 12 times in one day with new defs when there was a bit of an influx of new infections. Sometimes if theres a major infection Eset can force out updates to make sure the protection is upto date.

2013-01-25 23:07:00 | I have wondered about this for a while, being how nortons is so much bloat. If a lot of users actually disable it due to constant nagging from it. Could be a cause of some of the issues you see Wainui. I'm not doubting you, just have personally seen this during the past week while fixing one for a friend. | plod (107) | |
2013-01-26 08:02:00 | I took out MSSE and installed Nod32 a couple of days ago. I guess it is a keeper. Doesn't pull rendering progs to their knees (so far) and it took out 14 mischievous bits. The computer has a snappier response, but my typing remains locked at 83 mistakes a minute. MSSE pleased initially, but it seems to have grown bigger and clumsier as it evolved. (Much like almost every other M$ program or OS I've tried.)

2013-01-26 10:17:00 | Generally speaking Nod updates and the only thing you know about it is a message pops up in the bottom right hand corner saying its updated the defs, then disappears after a few seconds. You can disable this notification if you want. Eset have just recently also upgraded to version 6 ( From the RC version) - its been at 5 for a while now. Some of the updates can also be the modules in Nod32 upgrading. Unlike some other AV's the upgrades to the latest are included with the subscription. "If" theres a lot of popups, then theres some sort of underlying factor causing them. What commonly happens is Nod warns the user theres something it doesn't like, many people ignore these, it also checks to see if windows is up to date with security patches, if its not then you will get warnings, the common one is the tray Icon turns Orange - once again this notification can be turned off -- Its knowing the software setting ;) Please Note: disabling the notifications does just that, it wont notify you, it will still do them in the background unless the option is disabled. Talking about disabling the AV -- Have one customer rang back saying Nod was blocking his sites he goes to --- Porn sites-- so his work around was disable the AV then turn it back on later, and scan the PC to remove anything that may have come through --- Geeeeeesss:groan:
