1324884 2013-01-26 00:23:00 My neighbour has had this.

Not with Old Mans Beard, but with Woolly Nightshade.
If a banned plant is not removed after notices given (and that will be to the owner of the house), then the council will send contractors and bill the owner for it.

You should care, maybe you don't garden, but the stuff is a blight, you wouldn't like it much if the whole place got covered in it.

1324885 2013-01-26 00:38:00 I don't give a rats about it or its impact on the environment as long as its not my problem.
Don't think much of your attitude.

1324886 2013-01-26 02:08:00 Meh, you're not obliged to remove it. It IS the landlords problem, not yours. I just can't really sit inside and watch someone else work, I like working :p but that's just me. Nothing in the lore of citizenship says you MUST help with the clearance of noxious weeds. It would be a nice gesture to help but you don't have to.

As for the council chap, he probably didn't know the property was rented. Sure there are ways to check but someone probably filed a notice of the OMB growing, notified council who just sent a letter to the address. Advise the landlord and have a beer.

Sure, if the landlord would like to pay me my hourly rate I will be more then happy to help, but that's just me.

I quite often take a beer out to the landlord after he finishes mowing my lawns.

Just tell the council who the owner is, he will then have to remove it or pay costs.

1324890 2013-01-26 07:16:00 I alerted the local council to Moth Plant growing in a supermarket carpark, and was left getting cc'd the resultant communications around the council.

Seems they cared more as to whether or not they owned the land themselves than to simply send someone around for a chat with the manager / groundskeeper.

They pulled the plant some months ago. It's back now in multiple places. Lesson learnt: Don't tell the council - just go in with some snippers, some full strength Roundup and paint the cut stems yourself. 3 minutes work for 1 person. Tell the council or managerment and it becomes days of communications and responsibility dodging from all sides before someone does an incompetent job of it.

Am I supposed to care?

I am a kind and generous person and not to put too fine a point on it, one of the good guys.
But I do not care to do work that has nothing to do with me and I really don't care about environmental issues.

Not sure how much Old Mans Beard there is but with all the posting etc. you have done you could of probably have just gone out and dealt with it.
