2013-01-24 04:15:00 | There must be a lot of garden not shown if you're only watering every 3 or 4 days and averaging about 1300 litres/day. Many councils require backflow prevention on irrigation why not Auckland? Because it's built in, the meter cannot allow any backflow as it is, doesn't need a special extra bit attached. I don't know what it really is, it was 500l the month before, then 1000l December. But they estimate every 2nd month. Or underestimate more likely. I have to wait for the estimated bill then ring with the reading and they generate a new one. Can't give them the reading before they do it though, that would be too efficient. So, somewhere in the middle? I miss my bore I had down south.... Garden NZ mag is coming out in a couple of weeks, they have contacted watercare and are going to be interviewing us. Oh god, better get that bean weed out! Think about it, Pukekohe, Whenuapai, all the growers around Akld, imagine their bills, it's not just me and my not much of a garden that's got this problem.

2013-01-24 06:25:00 | Tried to work this out. Garden area is roughly 47sqm. Well, not counting fruit trees anyway.... Found some depth versus sqm calculations of water and it said a depth of an inch, would be 340 litres per week. Thats around 1300l a month. The bill says: This reading 8 Jan 2013 - 1756 Last reading 6 Dec 12 - 1717 Estimate Total 139kl. Billed 139.40 Previous bill says: This reading 6 dec 12 - 1717 Estimate Last reading 6 Nov 12 - 1703 Total 14 kl. Billed 59.49 make sense? I've confused myself now.

2013-01-24 06:31:00 | watercare are complete ****nuggets. they've been screwing up our bills every month since they changed to their new system, and because we're renting and it's our landlord's name on the bill, they refuse to talk to us. still, we sorted out with our landlord what parts of the bill each of us are paying. It's more expensive than it used to be, but not quite as much as yours is. The past couple months they were brilliantly bad. They took 427 dollars from SOMEONE ELSES ACCOUNT, stuck it on ours and said we were in credit. Then, this month just gone took it back, but took TOO MUCH BACK and put the account in debt. Then had the nerve to send US the bill, saying they were going to take IMMEDIATE ACTION. Mum was livid, and the landlord resigned herself to simply paying what they were asking for in the short term and giving them what for in the long.

2013-01-24 06:54:00 | Our water bill here in Auckland now that it's month is nearly the same as it is in Tauranga with 3 month billing. Yep it robbery here now with these little empire builders.. | paulw (1826) | |

2013-01-24 08:15:00 | Those Ram pumps are cool. My Uncle has one running in the Graham River not much fall but good volume pumps water up to a tank on the hill and it gravities down. Can hear it clacking away at night when its still. Saw a home made one on Auckland Islands for coast watchers. There were some clever buggers around in the old days. They sure are, 1m of fall can push the water up 40m. Massive!! Usually they are pretty much maintenance free although some models have the pressure bell fill with water, either due to poor design or worn seals which requires you to go down, drain it and restart. I saw a video by a NZ company that make RAM pumps (wilsons?) One of their models uses "dirty" water to operate the pump to move "clean" water up hill, useful if you have a small spring that flows into a not so clean creek, since you can use the large volume of creek water to pump you fresh water to the house. Talked to one chap who made a synchronous ram pump with 6 cylinders to provide constant pressure, no head height, just a 36m fall, the resulting pressure was good enough for the house (shack's :p) day to day water/ Provided a decent shower. I wish there were more of these mechanical smart buggers around. I feel left out :(

If I had $2000 I could afford their meter. I haven't even got $20. Someone has offered me a free 1000l tank. I'll take it - although husband will moan, he says we haven't got room and it's pointless. True, we calculated and read meter yesterday. We are using that much water, but the ground still has big cracks in it from dryness. No rain lately, so a tank is useful only when it does rain. But still......every little bit I'm thinking.... |

2013-01-24 21:04:00 | Here when our house was built (17 years ago) the then owner had the foresight to install two 20000l tanks underground:clap Garage on top and fed from our roof water. Magic for the garden. We have a trickle rural supply of up to 3000l per day (15ha running cattle) they can drink around 50l each per day in hot conditions. the cost of this supply of perfect water is $434 per YEAR. We are lucky:thumbs::thumbs: | Arnie (6624) | |
2013-01-24 21:10:00 | In a similar position myself - getting charged 70% of the incoming water as 'wastewater'. How do I claim a rebate for evaporation from the pool, which is a big issue at the moment?? I'm topping it up with the hose once a week at the moment, running the hose into the pool for around 30 minutes (no, we don't have a cover)...
