1348182 2013-07-07 23:48:00 Good morning team.
I have found some unknown files on a USB pen-drive which I have plugged into my PC. OS is XP. The files all have \cpfm \cpbmf \cpbdf \cptl \cpfmf and a search on Google suggests it is a trojan.game.thief.win32.magania An antivirus scan by Avast showed the 5 files as 'unable to scan' and I cannot delete in the normal manner. I am very suspicious that it is a trojan. The pen-drive is normally used for overhead projector display on a laptop and I do not want to infect any other pen-drive that my be used in the laptop and therefore spread the infection. Can someone tell me how to remove the files and how to cleanup my PC so the infection wont just reinfect the next time the pen-drive is used.

1348183 2013-07-08 00:10:00 You can try the following instructions : remove-trojan-gamethief_win32_magania (www.ehow.com) Haven't come across that one yet so no idea if those instructions will work or not.

You can also scan your PC with hitman Pro (www.surfright.nl) as well as malware bytes, and rescan after with your AV software.

Do a online scan with Nod32 www.eset.com or download and install a trial - Avast "should" have stopped them.

As for the USB drive - wipe the drive

1348186 2013-07-08 04:44:00 Thanks for the help. Did scans with hitman Pro which did not throw up anything. The pen-drive had PortableApps on it and when I updated and scanned with ClamWin there was something that avast picked up. Took the advice of 'dugimodo' and formatted the drive and then used Diskwipe to over-write. I will also do hitman scans on the laptops and check an ebook reader my daughter was given for her birthday and I synced some .epubs to it. I guess the answer is 'keep all antivirus programs up to date and suspect all downloads of a virus' Guess I will need to check the portable drive that has the backup on it too? Bugger. Robnhd (16012)
1348187 2013-07-08 05:05:00 Disable system restore install this update it then scan (http://simplysup.com/). If it picks up any strange names in startup / the registry, tell it to remove it. Then reboot then select everything under utils menu Speedy Gonzales (78)

Thanks - used Trojan Remover 6.8.7 and all seems to be clean.
