1347976 2013-07-04 01:02:00 I have been using an NEC 15" laptop but I am too old now to lug it around when travelling! I am contemplating obtaining an ASUS TF600 tablet with docking keyboard. Has Windows 8 RT. It is a tablet plus keyboard. I have a problem with fat fingers or cross eyes as I have a problem with on-screen keyboards and the Ipad is way too expensive and I don't need the 3G. Have read many reviews of the ASUS TF600 which seem to be OK. More positive than negative votes. Has anyone had a bad experience with the ASUS tablet/docking keyboard items? Thanks Robnhd (16012)
1347977 2013-07-04 01:12:00 I'd see if you can find one on display somewhere to have a play with before buying personally. I have a TF300 android tablet with keyboard dock and I'm pretty happy with it in general. The downsides I've found are pretty small - the included PSU has a clip on NZ plug attachement that I found difficult to get on properly and managed to break the day I got it - fixed with a bit of tape once I finally got it attached and good ever since. And for this model at least it's not obvious how to turn it on.... you have to hold the power button for about 10 seconds.

I find the screen very nice though and for general web browsing, E-mail, etc it's very good. Being an android it doesn't run windows software but I find for all the things I do there is an app available that does the job.

For travelling I think they are good. Have a look at them as suggested. I find that when I am travelling I don't need Windows and all the my familiar applications. Nor would I have the time. I find that when I am on the go, Androids are great with Google accounts, with a single logon, I get my Youtube, Google Maps, preferences all loaded up. Email, calendar, G Drive and all .... I'm still on a 4.7" cellphone haven't needed a full size tablet yet. Firefox can sync with the computer at home too so get all that bookmarks, web history all there too right after startup.

I don't do any of the real software stuff when I am on the road until I get back home.
I leave the laptop/PC for home bound.

1347979 2013-07-04 03:44:00 My brother has a Nexus 10 he's been using along with a Bluetooth keyboard, he raves about it! The keyboard and case was only $50 too!!

The tablet itself is *amazing* as well, highly recommended.

1347980 2013-07-04 05:11:00 Just remember Windows RT and Windows 8 are not the same thing, and Windows RT has a inferior application stack.

If you are happy with Windows RT, I'd recommend the Surface RT over the TF600. Surface RT - www.harveynorman.co.nz

Note - if I was buying (you may be different), I would pass on the touch cover, and buy a type cover for it. The type cover has physical keys, which I find to be much nicer than the touch cover.

1347981 2013-07-04 05:23:00 Thanks for all the comments. I will have a look and have a 'play' with one. Thanks for putting me right on the Windows 8 & Windows RT. The main use for the tablet will be for email, Skype and updating a travel blog and booking accommodation while travelling. Robnhd (16012)

I do all that very well on an ASUS TF700.

1347983 2013-07-05 01:07:00 The biggest issue for me is saving the camera's photos on my netbook for viewing and back up when traveling. Can one do this easily on a tablet or is it not as simple as with a netbook/laptop? FoxyMX (5)
1347984 2013-07-05 01:27:00 If you buy a tablet with a USB port, then get a SD card to USB port connector, it should be easy. Something like the Nexus 7 would struggle, something like the Surface RT should have no problems. Nick G (16709)
1347985 2013-07-05 01:36:00 If you buy a microSD card and an SD card adapter (which stays within the card slot) for your camera, you can even import photos onto the Surface RT without a card reader. :) pcuser42 (130)
