1324803 2013-01-25 01:04:00 With Windows Live Messenger soon to be history. I am wondering whether Windows Live (Hotmail) Mail will also go the same way, as it seems they are trying to encourage users to open an Outlook.com email account.

I am totally in the dark about it and I'd be grateful for some information as to whether it works in much the same way as Hotmail.com. I don't want any of my other email addresses incorporated into one single system as I'd rather keep our business and home accounts completely separate to something that I may use to contact people or various sites such as Facebook.

Windows Live Mail and Messenger were more or less under the same umbrella. Can Outlook.com be used in much the same way?

Cheers,
Marnie

1324805 2013-01-25 01:12:00 Hi Marnie,

Sooner or longer your hotmail account will be moved over to outlook.com. We've done a few articles on how it differs and what you need to know on the main site. Try some of these links to help:

1324806 2013-01-25 04:43:00 Both my Hotmail and Outlook.com get picked up with the same Hotmail plugin for Outlook so I guess they will both merge at some time.. paulw (1826)

1324808 2013-01-25 06:43:00 Outlook.com is taking over from Hotmail and a lot better.

Been using it on two accounts, its a lot cleaner and less cluttered than the old Hotmail, and its spam filters are excellent, out of the two Outlook accounts combined I have only ever got three pieces of spam since October last year.
