1324159 2013-01-21 22:40:00 I've had a lot of trouble with routers, over Xmas mine spat the dummy again and in frustration I went to PB tech and bought one of these www.pbtechnz.com It's the most expensive one I've ever bought and I'm hoping it does better than the last few.

It's too soon to comment on the reliability but as for performance so far it's awesome, it's stayed connected 24/7 - wireless coverage and speed is good, and I love the QoS for dummies Game setting. As an experiment I started up a couple of torrents and jumped online to play WoW, the game played as if nothing else was going on - previously that would have been impossible (well the old router had QoS but I didn't know how to set it up).

The GUI is quite easy to use and the features pretty good, so far (touch wood) I'm very happy with it.

A brief history of Router woes for anyone who's interested; (TL;DR - Since ADSL2+ hit my street a few years ago I'm on my 5th router ! this one better last longer)

First the good;
Started with a Nokia M10 ADSL1 router (ex first gen telecom rental) - rock solid and reliable, I still use it as a DHCP server for small LANs
Then got the rental M11 - also pretty good and 4 ports was handy

Then the Mediocre;
Bought a Dlink 4 port modem router to avoid the rental and sent the Nokia back - also good and trouble free, until ADSL2+ hit my neighbourhood - the Dlink wouldn't exceed 8Mb despite supposedly supporting ADSL2+
I signed up for 2 years to get a free router and got a thompson from telecom - mostly worked ok but has a horrible GUI and was prone to random disconnects it won't auto recover from.

Then the bad (kind of);
Got a 2nd hand WAG160N (I think, maybe a similar model) from a colleague - worked flawlessly for 3 months then abruptly died -GUI was ok and features were good.
Did some research for the first time and settled on an NB6plus4Wn - great performing router with good features and a solid reputation, I think I got a bad one though. Since I got it any machine running XP and doing heavy downloading seemed to kill the router forcing a restart, I should have replaced it under warranty but I just stopped using XP and problem solved - until Xmas when the WiFi died and the router was 1 month out of warranty.

1324160 2013-01-21 23:12:00 Yep been impressed with the Asus stuff lately, and the DSL-N12U is good too!

A solid router is hard to find these days... So many cheap hunks of junk.

1324162 2013-01-21 23:25:00 I'd still go 1043ND running Gargoyle personally with a Draytek DV120. The Asus DSL-N55U and N12U do DSL though so if you're recommending an All-in-one to like a friend or family member, then I'd go that direction. Chilling_Silence (9)
