182267 2003-10-11 06:03:00 maybe it is the virus... but im not sure... when ever i try to open a file, it wants to open it in a internet explorer, or let me browse for a program to open it with.... soooo, I cant exactly follow the intructions at the antivirus site... =( i was trying the online scanner at pc-cillin, but it wont work for some reason... of course... its just my luck!!! is there some kind of dll, or windows file, or something that deals with opening exe"s, and other such files? also a lot of my programs now have a .ink extension??
what can i do? can i dwnld anything? =(
I was experimenting, and i can associate mp3 with windows media player, and they work...

182268 2003-10-11 06:13:00 It sounds like your file associations have gone. Go here (www.dougknox.com) and at the bottom is a zip folder association which you may need first. Then get the top one "Batch file Association fix" and use it. It restores the windows default associations. The other program associations such as PDF etc are unaffected.
Next...keep sanity :)

182269 2003-10-11 08:42:00 ok, thanks heaps, i seem to be on the right track... but how do i get the reg to work. with out it opening all the time as a txt?? sadfather (4712)
182270 2003-10-11 09:53:00 Just double click it like a normal program folder. It will write itself into the registry automatically. Then restart the PC. Pheonix (280)
182271 2003-10-11 10:01:00 Phoenix, you ... his associations are all stuffed up so he cant open .reg files!!!! click open with, till you get the menu of programs you can open stuff up with and open the .reg file with c:\windows\REGEDIT.EXE fus1_n (3818)
182272 2003-10-11 10:12:00 I have had this problem and windows knows the reg file, but doesn't recognise the exe files. Keeps asking for program to open with/check on net whenever you try to open exe or any other file. Pheonix (280)
182273 2003-10-11 10:21:00 Maybe try it in safe mode? Pheonix (280)
