To share the net connection on XP . 2 . Click on the LAN icon on the taskbar in XP/Properties . Tick the 3 there . Uninstall that QOS thing . You dont need that . 3 . Once you tick the 3 above, double click on TCP/IP on XP . And select Use the following IP . Put in 192 . 168 . 0 . 1 here . 4 . Under that (subnet mask) type in 255 . 255 . 255 . 0 ( I think this will appear anyway, once you do step 1 above) . 5 . Then on XP, make a folder/right mouse button/properties sharing . Tell XP to share it then tick the name of the folder so it's shared . DONT share the whole hard drive! You may regret it later! If someone hacks you . It's also a good idea to get a decent firewall installed (XP has one BUT it is limited in what it can do) Get something better . Don't use the Network Wizard it sux! Do the same with the CD in XP . Highlight/Right mouse/properties and share it just like the folder . 6 . On Win 95, its a bit trickier . I think u go to Network in Control Panel . I think this is where you tick enable file and printer sharing, I maybe wrong . I havent used Win95 for a while . Do the same on 95 (make a folder and share it) . BUT NOT the whole hard drive! Also make sure BOTH XP and 95 have the same WORKGROUP name . Or else it'll never work . Also if you dont have a hub for the network you MUST use a crossover cable, between the 2 computers . Or else the network wont work either . The next bit is the hardest in 95, coz I dont know / cant remember where you go! It may also be under Network in Control Panel . What youre looking for ( I think), is something saying DNS . You have to give the 95 PC an ip of 192 . 168 . 0 . 2 or something like this, then where it says default gateway, point it to the main PC (192 . 168 . 0 . 1) and put 192 . 168 . 0 . 1 where it says preferred DNS server . I think that's it . Then OK . You may have to reboot for it to log into the network properly . That SHOULD be it! |
