2003-10-11 05:45:00 | I have created a new partition on my old win 95 and set it to the active partition. Now all it does is not load windows but have this annoying dash. I dont have a win 95 cd and my floppy drive is munched. i am going to upgrade to win 98 or win me so should i get a 98/me cd and upgrade it now. the new partition is 55mb (i was going to compress it and store downloads on it!) i need help now! | Megaman (344) | |
2003-10-11 06:24:00 | 1/ How did you partition your drive..did you use partition magic? 2/ You will require a disk and licence number to upgrade to 98/me 3/ Are your PC specs good enough for the upgrade? 4/ 55Mb is too small apart from DOS and win3.11 (a cram for 95). Is this the partition you want to install windows into? If not, what is the size?

2003-10-12 06:16:00 | No i didnt use partition magic, just the humble DOS based fdisk. i checked microsoft site and it said AMD K5 166mhz processor and 32mb of ram should be ok. would i be able to have DOS 4 and WIN 95 on the same harddrive in different partitions. i may install dos on the empty partition that it tries to load from(the computer was on its last legs anyway. thats wat we got our win xp for!) pleaz i am desprate! | Megaman (344) | |

2003-10-14 02:16:00 | it has had a recent drive failure and been replaces with a nice new roomy 40gb hd. catch is it only had a 7.07gb partition(i think. it may have been 8gb. i dunno) fdisk made another 55mb partition in the existing one. if the worst comes to the worst then i will pay someone to put its ram and hd into our new win xp(if there is enough space. its case is tiny!) | Megaman (344) | |
2003-10-14 04:18:00 | If whoever installed the new disk copied a working W95 (from your old one) onto the new disk, I fear that FDISK has blown it away. :_| If they didn't, FDISK hasn't. Either way, you've got a shortage of paddle. :-( | Graham L (2) | |
2003-11-04 03:19:00 | no. it's hd was fine for about a 1/2 year then fdisk stuffed it up. | Megaman (344) | |
2003-11-04 03:32:00 | Insufficient detail Provide the partition information from the option 4 display screen in MS FDISK Both MS DOS and MS Windows 95 have strict requirements regarding location on a hard drive. Not all versions of MS Windows 95 are compatible with dual booting with versions of MS DOS. Men are four: He who knows not and knows not he knows not, he is a fool -- shun him; He who knows not and knows he knows not, he is simple -- teach him; He who knows and knows not he knows, he is asleep -- wake him; He who knows and knows he knows, he is wise -- follow him! - Lady Burton (wife of Sir Richard Francis Burton), given as an Arabian proverb

Set the active partition back to your C drive - the active partition is where windows boots from - so at the moment your computer cannot find its operating system. Thats why you only have the flashing cursor. |
