| 182127 | 2003-10-10 23:59:00 | I need help!!! My son, my bad son, was at an ungodly hour installing hacked software on my wifes computer...my WIFES computer for godsake! So he's tried to install some kind of hack, which turns out to be some kind of bastard program that got him to delete a dll from windows, that seems to control exe's. now NO exe's will open.... heres where it gets difficult.... I cant reinstall windows XP because my wife is japanese, and her windows CD is back at home in japan... also I cant really understand much on the pc as my japanese isnt soo good... but some how I can blunder my way through! does anybody know what I can do? can I dwnld the dll somewhere? can i run an update? | 182128 | 2003-10-11 00:13:00 | Step 1. Calm down before doing anything. Step 2. Try the System Restore feature. It could work. Step 3. Do NOT hit your computer with a large hammer. Step 4. Make sure your son does not EVER try installing hacked software on your wife's computer ever again. Otherwise make him pay for the airfare for your wife to go back to Japan and bring the CD here. |

| 182132 | 2003-10-11 06:01:00 | maybe it is the virus... but im not sure... when ever i try to open a file, it wants to open it in a internet explorer, or let me browse for a program to open it with.... soooo, I cant exactly follow the intructions at the antivirus site... =( i was trying the online scanner at pc-cillin, but it wont work for some reason... of course... its just my luck!!! is there some kind of dll, or windows file, or something that deals with opening exe"s, and other such files? also a lot of my programs now have a .ink extension?? | sadfather (4712) | ||
| 182133 | 2003-10-11 06:15:00 | Get your wife to tell you what "System Restore" is in japanese, and then run that. It's where PoWa said, and should hopefully fix the problem. This is assuming that System Restore was turned on before your son caused the problem. The other method is to learn japanese really quickly. |
