2003-10-10 19:03:00 | My son just got a message from a person he knows through messenger who informed him that a apllication called jdbgmgr which has a bear icon will cause a breakdown of our computer within 14 days, it then spreads itself through your contact addresses. They also said Nortons or any other anti-virus software would't detect it. I did a search and found it lodged in C:\WINDOWS\system32. When I check it under properties it tells me that its description is Microsoft Debugger register for java, it's file version is 5.0.3805.0. Should I believe this person and remove this or is this a genuine Microsoft Application. Please Help Radar

2003-10-10 19:06:00 | Hi, this is a well known hoax that has been around for a few years. Do not delete the file as its a required system file. | parry (27) | |
2003-10-10 19:30:00 | Parry is dead right. Ignore it and spread the word that it's a hoax. For further confirmation put the name into the search field here and read all about it. | mark c (247) | |
2003-10-10 21:19:00 | jdbgmgr is a file that is used for opening and running some java files. Without it internet explorer can not open some java sites. sometimes you can get a virus called jdbgmgr.exe.vbs which can infect your system. I advise you not to delete it.

That was good to ask though, if you can get into that habit of "safe" computing now, you'll thank yourself for it later! You may want to mail your contact who sent you it and let them know they were wrong.. and attach a copy of your jdbmgr.exe file for them while you're at it ;-) |
