| 182035 | 2003-10-10 12:19:00 | Okay, I'm gonna say it straight out. Can you run MAC OS X on an IBM Computer. Is it possible to emulate it? |

| 182036 | 2003-10-10 19:31:00 | You can't run OS X on an x86 computer as it is compiled for the PowerPC architecture. Rumour has it that Apple maintain an x86 version of OS X, but I don't think we'll ever see it. Emulation - well, not as far as I'm aware. That's a pretty big thing to emulate! |

| 182037 | 2003-10-11 00:04:00 | And I take it you cant use x86 OS on PPC architecture? Is it possible to install a PPC processor in place of an x86 proccessor? How much different are the PPC pins from x86. |

| 182038 | 2003-10-11 01:08:00 | They are totally incompatible. X86s are totally incompatible with X86s, except for the object code. :D It is possible to emulate any hardware on another architecture... you can probably find an emulator for the PPC processor on X86 ... and you might even be able to install Mac OS X on one. But it would run very slowly. OS X is based on BSD, so if you can get source of any programmes they would compile to run under any *nix on any platform without much trouble. If you want an X86 machine to apear like a Mac you can probably find (or make your own) GUI theme for X window on *nix, (or you mighht even finnd one for a Windows. ]:) ) |

I would not be surprised if an emulator capable of running OSX existed but it would probably be quite slow. OSX isn't exactly fast on native hardware. No idea how much it would cost either. |

| 182041 | 2003-10-11 06:08:00 | Yeah, I know that Darwin runs on x86 as well, but there is a lot more to OS X than just Darwin. | segfault (655) | ||

(Warning: It is a joke, don't get alarmed, it will simulate the deletion of windows and the loading of Mac OS onto your computer. I got it through a Press F1 posting ages ago.) click here (www.yaromat.com) Enjoy :) |
