182044 2003-10-10 10:53:00 A friend bought a new Proview XP computer, but she retained her 1999 Hewlet Packard printer having just spent 200 dollars having it cleaned and fitted with 2 new ink bottles. She found that the two are incompatible in one way only i.e. the setting is for American A4 paper and I need European A4 for making cards, my main use of the computer. The firm that overhauled the printer talked her through and she got the setting altered but the default reverted. Apparently Hewlet Packard don't supply updates to make the 1999 printer compatible to XP. Can you help please? billbarbob (3355)
182045 2003-10-10 11:02:00 The setting in the printer driver is usually ignored, and the setting that is specified in the program that is used to print the cards should override it.

I have an HP Laser, and the default has always been Letter, it always reverts to it.

However when using it from any program, the program settings remain on A4 and override the printer driver settings.

182046 2003-10-11 00:49:00 By the way, there is no such thing as "American A4". A4 is one of the A series ISO (international) paper sizes. It's the same size, all over the world, even in the part of the world which many US Americans think is the whole world. :D Graham L (2)
