181767 2003-10-09 23:37:00 Why do manufacturers produce such a plethora of laptop models?
For example Toshiba show 22 laptops on their site - not including the smaller Tecra models.
This makes trying to compare specs and prices across different models almost impossible - let alone comparing brands.

How about reducing the choices to 3 and adopting the condom labelling strategy - Large, Super, and Goliath.

Any thoughts?

181768 2003-10-09 23:40:00 Yea, and they also seem to bring out new models faster than you can say "Hey, isn't that a new model?" :) CYaBro (73)

181770 2003-10-10 05:35:00 Its designed to confuse consumers, so that they go an buy a PC. Harry_H (2985)
181771 2003-10-10 05:47:00 I think there are so many different laptop models available because people buy laptops for many different reasons and uses.

With a desktop it is very easy to taylor it to your specific needs. A laptop however is not as upgradable or configurable as desktop, so by manufacturers ofering a huge range it gives the consumer the power to choose a model specific to their needs.

181772 2003-10-10 06:13:00 Yeah, I agree with binary boy. Desktop components can be easily changed if need be, while with laptops you are pretty much stuck with what you get. segfault (655)

Speaking of which; isn't a bit odd to use "Trojan" as a brand-name for a condom?

Since Ancient Greece it has been a device for sneaking things in secretly.

Or maybe it's "working like a..." I never got it.

181775 2003-10-13 04:29:00 guess it looks stylish. able to be shared around easier and taken to mate's places easier. easier for novices whom arn't into gaming or video editing and such uses, just the casual letter, email, internet and tetris/card games and chatting online with friends. nomad (3693)
