| 182216 | 2003-10-12 03:05:00 | Hi all I feel the need to put my 2 cents worth in so here goes. Any attack aircraft we would own would not be used to protect our shores directly. If an invading force where to threaten this country, the world would be in one hell of a mess - the whole of Southeast Asia and Australia would have been overrun, the USA would have been brought to its knees and we would be pretty much in the pooh. The idea that the farmers (or anyone else for that matter) will be able to help may seem noble, but in reality, they would be of no consequence. If they where to try and defend our shores, they would have to drag there families around with them or risk having them used as hostages to make them come out of the bush. The idea of owning a combat force is so that we can be seen by our trading partners, (of which Southeast Asia and Australia are a fairly large percentage) that we care about them and are prepared to help them if they are under threat. That is why we had joint exercises with them regularly. Unfortunately these countries (in Southeast Asia in particular) think that any credible assistance comes in the form of an air combat force. They have more than enough people who can fight on the ground but not enough that can fight in the air, so that is why they see an air combat force as a genuine form of comment. In return (theoretically) they would more than happy to buy or exports rather than someone elses e.g. Japan, Russia, USA to name a few. It would also mean that any possible threat would be taken care of a long way from our shores. The general population would not then be subjected to shortages of food/fuel or any number of items that this country imports to keep the population feed and employed, or the risk of the cities being bombarded from the air or sea. Lastly, if I where in the Army and where stuck in the bottom of a foxhole, I would rather rely on my own air support. Relying on another nation for air support has two risks 1. The other nation will be looking after there own interests first at the possible detriment to yours and 2. One nation in particular who we might end up relying on, have killed more friendly forces than I would care to think about if I where relying on the bombs being put in the right place. I feel much better now. |

| 182221 | 2003-10-12 07:37:00 | and to add my 2 cents worth wouldnt we only have to say something totally stupid to them such as " Microsoft...... or even Windows..... " and they would laugh so hard theyd kill them selves laughing? not that i beleive in war or violence mind you...... and if some stupid country thought to invade us, god help them as there probably more of them and others in this country now than just NZ's and so whats to be gained for invading nz? its to stupid to think about but then stranger things have happened in this world. beetle |
