How do I do this? Do you mean hosting it on my own computer?

I have jetstream, with 500mb a month account(round about).

I have IIS installed if you need that.

Take a look at this - http://www.oscommerce.com

Is that similar to what you're doing?

182602 2003-10-14 13:11:00 By running on your own machine I meant more along the lines of running MySQL, Apache, etc.. on one of your own machines, it'll be handy to have a dedicated machine set-up that you can 'test' your work on.

I wouldn't suggest hosting from your own computer, there's alot of hosting bits and pieces that not many people think about and get slammed from.

And I think it might be breaking the Terms & Conditions of your ISP aswell.

182603 2003-10-14 18:25:00 I think I will just upload it to my web host server to check things.

My brother knows C, so will he be able to help me? Or is PHP and C a lot different?

182604 2003-10-14 20:32:00 I've heard that PHP is quite like C, but don't take my word for it. segfault (655)
182605 2003-10-14 22:18:00 I had a look at oscommerce and a few others and it's good, in fact it's probably the best opensource PHP cart out there, It's kinda jammed packed full of things is what I thought and it's too much for starting out companies, who just want to get a presence on the net as well as keeping it simple.

Basically I looked at Interchange and saw that it was SIMPLE, it's looks are basic and I saw a lot of potential of adding to it, it's layout though is plain, but I'm implementing a theme manager with my own designed themes, and I'm going to make it easy for people to add their own themes to it too. Once I get it done in PHP and MySQL, I'll create a theme manager for it. Release date? Unsure, as I multitask (work on different projects all the time)

I'm still not sure whether PHP will be better than Perl in this scenario, it's just a speed comparison, if PHP is quicker then it's obviously the best choice, if not then there's no point reinventing the wheel, I may as well work in Perl and help contribute to Interchange.

182606 2003-10-14 22:22:00 PHP is based on C and Perl as well as others, but you may as well say PHP is in a class of it's own. I've noticed things in PHP that would be good to have in C/C++ Kame (312)
182607 2003-10-16 09:46:00 Well, It looks like I will have to stick with ASP for now.

I tried PHP on IIS, but I had no end of problems.

I tried 3 different scripts, PHPTrak, PHPCounter, and PHP Website, and none of them worked.

What I could do though, is the echo whatsit, and I put Hello World on the screen using PHP, "yay".

I wanted those scripts to work though.

182608 2003-10-16 10:18:00 Did you follow the instructions fully for the scripts? Also some scripts will only work under apache and sometimes only under linux as well. -=JM=- (16)
182609 2003-10-16 10:48:00 I'm an ASP kinda guy, but with the road Microsoft's taking, I'd say PHP (despite the fact one look at it and I'm confused :D). agent (30)
