2003-10-12 10:31:00 | Just for future readers of this: The power to the machine should be off if you are going to use the paper-clip method to open the cd-tray.

2003-10-12 17:20:00 | I think it may have something to do with the autoplay, and if its turned on or not. I often have the problem of the drive not detecting a new cd when its been inserted. Throw the computer away and get a new one

2003-10-12 22:54:00 | i did get it open CC but just wondering if the problem was caused by a fault or just not reading that the disk is there properly, unless prodded by me.... and have found auto play to be a pain anyway but have not found box / tick or setting to switch it off, ive found how to alter it just not switch it off... LOL thanxs beetle

2003-10-13 01:35:00 | The problem I've encountered is usually a write protection, which locks the drive being able to be opened during this, and since it's buggy software, keeps it locked. The only best method I have found is rebooting the computer. Are you using Roxio's (formerly Adaptec) DirectCD? I've continuously had problems with it that I decided to ditch it. The pinhole trick should work, you need something that is strong enough to push the inner gears that releases the drive, you may need something stronger than a paperclip.

That way the program on the CD will not start. Cheers Billy 8-{) |
