182635 2003-10-12 09:56:00 Have a look on teh front of the drive there may be a small pinhole u can push a paper clip or pin into, this releases the draw.

Or reboot and hit the eject button as the computer is nearly booted

182636 2003-10-12 09:59:00 Go to "My Computer", right click on the CD-ROM drive and choose "Eject" from the menu.
OR
You can open most CD-ROM drawers with a unwound paper clip. Poke it, as straight as possible, into the hole and push with moderate force (the paper clip may bend a little) to force the drawer open a half inch. Now pull the drawer the rest of the way open.

A CD may be jammed or broken inside the drive. Access may require the removal of the drive's outer case.

182638 2003-10-12 10:06:00 ths happened to me "often" and it was the result of loose wires inside the cable that connects disk drive to watever it connects to....causing it not to open when requested

if its not hardware for u...maybe get the inner checked out...

182639 2003-10-12 10:12:00 I put the cause down to cheap and nasty gear,my cheap and nasty cd-writer has a habit of doing it quiet often,When it does i can hear the cd spinning up and down as the drive tries to read the cd and quite obviously cant,So instead of letting me override what its doing it just continues to spin the cd and varing speeds and refuses to open.

And seeing as my drive has no external draw release my only option is to do the reboot and grab the cd out before that stupid thing gets going with its eternal loop once again....

182640 2003-10-12 10:18:00 yeah well i know the cheap and nasty feeling only to well lately...
and feel someone should have warned me at the start computers are a pain, and also i may not have bought a pc co puter then either...

thanxs metla

182641 2003-10-12 10:19:00 Rofl metla, perfect example.

I think it may have something to do with the autoplay, and if its turned on or not. I oftne have the problem of the drive not detecting a new cd when its been inserted. I have to eject and insert by right clicking on the drive icon, so stupid windows knows there is a dif cd in the drive.

Happens a lot with a cd-rw disc as well.

182642 2003-10-12 10:23:00 Sometimes I have to eject the cd tray constantly and slam it shut with my finger to get the thing to recorgnise that there is a cd there to read.

Even have to wiggle the draw around sometimes after its shut before the drive will start to read it.

lmao,i really need a new cd drive.
