183195 2003-10-14 09:39:00 I have heard that Download Accelerator (DAP) is or uses a form of spyware. Is this true? Hardy (4730)
183196 2003-10-14 09:47:00 Hi,

Welcome to PressF1 :-)

If you're referring to Speedbit's Download Accelerator Plus (AKA DAP) then yes, you are right.

Such a good program, I dont see why they had to spoil it... But, there is a cure:
Download and run (Dont forget to run update and get the latest reference file) Spybot Search & Destroy (IIRC, www.security.kolla.de is the URL, or www.spybot.info is a mirror?)

That should help clear out the nasties it leaves

Cheers

183197 2003-10-14 22:21:00 I use Spybot and DAP. When I run Spybot I get about 14 or so references to the nasties in DAP but don't remove them as I wondered if that would spoil DAP. Sound like it is safe to remove them???

Thanks for the info Chilling_Silently.

183198 2003-10-15 01:00:00 Yes, I too was suspicious at first, as I know of a few apps that wont run once the spyware is removed.

If need be you can always re-install it, but it seems to be working on the 8 PC's around me at work that have DAP installed on :-)
