183162 2003-10-14 10:28:00 Personally.... The world could survive on 3.4Ghz machines running Open Source for a while longer... but stopping people from using it would be another thing... :-(

I said it about X-Box and the latest Audio-CD's Copy-Protection:

Its only a matter of time before it gets thrown to the wind, and is no longer a problem.

The more people working on getting past it, the faster it'll be put in the "Not a problem" bin :-)

183163 2003-10-14 10:42:00 Universal ID by stealth. Rights (and privileges) trampled by a foreign company(s). The pity is, is that so many will roll over onto their backs with their paws in the air which not only makes them vulnerable but, the rest of us as well.

183164 2003-10-14 11:01:00 Yea well I won't be buying into that rubbish no way. I'd also be wary about it being possible to 'disable' it, I reckon it would actually still be running secretly.

As soon as they come out, start shelling out $1000's for the fastest non-TC chips, then have fun cluster-networking them up (have yet to find a decent workable guide for that though).

183169 2003-10-15 00:18:00 Hopefully the backlash will stop this sort of thing. Certainly Intel will go with it and any other companies that want to stay in with Microsoft.

The day I receive a Word document which I can't open for this reason, I will reply and ask them to send it to me in an "open" format.

183170 2003-10-15 00:25:00 Good point!

Ive started using .rtf for a lot of Documents.

It just means that its more compatible across the board (With my friends using MS Office 97, 2003, OpenOffice, StarOffice, ABI Word.

Its usually smaller too compared to .Doc files :D

It may just be that there becomes a 2nd internet of "Trusted" users, and a second one of "un-trusted" users!
