183127 2003-10-14 07:16:00 Hi

I have some questions. A friend asked:

Can Xbox run windows and window games?
Can a desktop PC run xbox games?

Yes/No answers are sufficient.

183129 2003-10-14 07:36:00 Although, some game developers release games for multiple platforms, like Halo (game). promethius (1998)
183130 2003-10-14 07:58:00 You can get XBox emulator for PC, and then stick the XBox game in your dvd-rom drive. Dunno if thats legal though. Chill, will probably tell you he can get anything and everything going on his Xbox, I wouldn't be surprised. :) PoWa (203)
183131 2003-10-14 10:16:00 Ha! Aside from some good old Console Games (Like Street Fighter 2... Mortal Konbat etc) running on it, Its also streaming all my MP3's/Vidz from my Desktop PC to my TV, not to mention its a region-free DVD Player ;-)

That's all I've done with mine, but, things really start getting cool when you upgrade your HDD.... Install Linux (There you go, desktop Operating system on it) and from there you can always run VMWare if you still had some Windows roots that you couldnt bare to be without.

If you goto:
http://xbox-linux.sourceforge.net/

You can see that the specs are pretty impressive, this is what they have to say:
The Xbox is a legacy-free PC by Microsoft:
Intel Celeron 733 MHz CPU
nVidia GeForce 3MX
64 MB of RAM
8/10 GB hard disk
DVD drive
10/100 Ethernet

As on every PC, you can run Linux on it.

An Xbox with Linux can be:
a full desktop computer with mouse and keyboard
a web/email box connected to TV
a server or router
a node in a cluster

You can either dual-boot or use Linux only; in the latter case, you can replace both IDE devices.

And yes, you can connect the Xbox to a VGA monitor

Sounds pretty cool huh?!

Would you like fries with your X-Box?

;-)

Feel free to send me an email off-forum:

Myself or Lohsing would be more than happy to help out (Where is he.. He should tell you about his X-Box too!)

183133 2003-10-14 10:50:00 I assume it does since u said dual boot. WinXP?! Really. nomad (3693)
183134 2003-10-14 10:51:00 Under VMWare, yes, but the memory isnt really enough to install more than Win98 on, unless you wanna start using SWAP.

Apparently its been done in VMWare by a couple of people.. am yet to install Linux on my XBox myself (Hey, Scott, if you're reading this I tried calling you a couple of times last week and sent you an email that you possibly wrote off as spam with the amount you get, or were getting when I last saw you. You said you needed an X-Box to borrow to play round with.. borrow away dude...) but that could change soon...
