| 182952 | 2003-10-14 01:38:00 | Hi People I have nearly 4GB of files in a folder C:/_RESTORE/TEMP/. The files are named like A0934456.CPY. They show (up) when running a virus scan, but when setting 'Display Hidden Folders/Files' I can only see the /_RESTORE folder using My Computer - Explore. No /TEMP. No *.CPY files. Even a Find Folders/Files *.CPY returns a zero result. It also seems that they are increasing in number. Why can't I find them? How can I find them? Can I cull (delete) some if not all? And just what are they? (I presume they may have something to do with System Restore. It's turned off.) Cheers Chris BTW my virus scan now takes 45+ minutes instead of the usual 10. |

Yes you are correct they are to do with System Restore, which is a good feature to have On Not off, because if you or something stuff ups up your computer then you can go back before it happened. What OS do you have??? Win ME/ XP or 2003???? Then I can tell you how to delete them???? |

If ReadOnly is set, you can't delete the file (or at least get a query from the system ;-)). If the Archive bit is set, the file hasn't been archived by a backup programme. If the Hidden bit is set ... :D | Graham L (2) | ||

And when you are searching your computer with the search tool, in the advanced options make it search through hidden and system files. If System restore is turned off, you can safely whack the whole _restore folder. |
