183040 2003-10-21 08:56:00 It was kind of like that, but what they mentioned was that it could (somehow) recognise the audio so that it could jump to that part in your notes... or perhaps the other way around, it jumps to that part of the audio when you're reading a part in your notes... I dunno how that works really :)

183041 2003-10-21 09:01:00 You could try, but:

- you'd need a direct feed from their microphone into your microphone plug, to avoid background noise
- speech recognition generally needs to be trained
- it is capable of making mistakes even when you train it many times a week, many times over
- it is slower than the rate of standard speech

Of course, nothing's stopping you from testing it out, but I'd say the results would be short of great.

183042 2003-10-21 19:28:00 Right you are Mike..

Did a bit of further investivgating with the friend in IT who gave it to me.. Its some sort of a marketing pre-release which would have expired in about 10 days from now.. I dunno... That's just what he's told me.

Personally I dont care either, Im running Linux so its kinda useless :-P
OpenOffice 1.1 is looking pretty good from all the reviews I've read online, and the price tag is much more modest!

My apologies for the confisuion there aye... *I knew it was too good to be true*
Is it just me though or is it looking a lot more like Bloatware with each and every release?

183043 2003-10-21 20:50:00 Hello All I am a reseller and Microsoft has given to all People that attended the reseller launch of Office 2003 a Free Copy of Office Pro.

I have upgraded my Office XP Pro with 2003 I also installed Business Manager which works with Outlook 2003. (Not that great we use Goldmine) (not to say Microsoft will get there one day)

(Test PC) I am running a Celeron 1100 MHz with 512 Mb Ram and are finding that it (office 2003) is running really slow.

I am going to do a clean install and see if this will improve how it is now running.

Office XP Pro worked fine

will give an update soon.

Has anyone else had problems.

183044 2003-10-21 21:14:00 I went down to Dick Smith this morning and got a free copy (professional). Every store was giving away 5 free copies to the first 5 people. Saves $1000 or so so Im real happy. Haven't installed it yet but will keep you updated and let you know how it goes.

183046 2003-10-21 22:55:00 I only found out because I was looking at their website this morning. There were only 3 of us waiting at Dick Smiths. 2 other people just got free copies beause they happened to walk into the shop. Have only installed outlook for now but it is looking really good. MS finally decided to add a bit of colour at last. Barnabas (4562)

A marketing pre-release? Or just beta 2r? beta 2 and 2r expire sometime November.

LOL wish it wasn't eh :)

I was surprised that it's all on one CD this time. I though OXP was on 2 CDs? With Publisher on another one altogether? This has got Office Pro including publisher on one CD. Not that it means less bloatware, but I found it was a nice tidy install, fast, and loads fast too. Mind you, I have been using a beta version for ages, so that might be part of the difference LOL.
