182948 2003-10-14 00:19:00 Our flat has 3 pcs, one running XP Home, one running XP pro and one dual booting xp pro and Linux. All 3 machines are on the same workgroup and all have file sharing enabled and files shared.

When going into Network Neighbourhood we are unable to see other machines but they can found using the search function. When the machines are found there is an error message advising that we do not have permission when attempting to access them. How do I set them so that they will be able to share files?

I have checked Windows Help and done everything that it says. We also have an ADSL router attached to our switch and can all access it without problems. The dual booting machine is generally loading XP.

182949 2003-10-14 02:29:00 Each user needs permission on each computer, they also need a password (some fix that MS made, so no more blank passwords for networking), setup the users on all the computers, and then enable file sharing, and share something.

Another thing would be firewall settings, making sure that you are allowing the network neighbourhood ports.

Enable FIle and printing sharing on all. share a folder. Add the ip's to each if you have a firewall on each. Thats it

As an extra note, this network worked well, without the need for passwords, until one machine was set up for Win XP Pro / Linux dual boot. This machine is able to access the others, but the other machines still get the error message about permissions when trying to access the dual boot machine.
