183914 2003-10-16 09:07:00 Hi,
My Deleted Items have stopped being automaticly wiped when I exit Outlook Express. Not sure what has happened. I updated criticle updates automaticly from Microsoft this morning. I can not manualy delete them either. Has anyone else had this problem? Thanks, Headbutts

183915 2003-10-16 09:22:00 In OE:

Tools --> Options --> Maintenance --> Tick the first box

183916 2003-10-16 09:27:00 Yea Thanks. Had already checked it out. It all ready was ticked so I unticked it. Logged out. Logged back in. Ticked it and when I closed Outlook down the message came up again that there had been a problem. Just the same as before. Thanks for trying.

183917 2003-10-16 09:29:00 Just re-read your original post...

So if you go to Edit --> Empty Deleted Items Folder, it still doesn't dump them?

I'd also try selecting them one by one and manually deleting them from the deleted items folder.

Failing that, Close OE and do a search for *.dbx on your machine, delete the Deleted Items.dbx and reopen Outlook Express. This should delete all the messages and create a new, functioning Deleted Items box.

183920 2003-10-17 09:25:00 Hi,
Tried the search under all files and folders but it came back with nothing at all? Any other ideas, or should I try under Documents?
Sorry to be a pain,

183921 2003-10-17 10:52:00 Go to Outlook Express

Open: Tools; Options; Maintenance; Store Folder

Highlight the path to your store folder (click mouse in the path box, press home then shift/end)

Press Ctrl C (copies the path)

Now open Windows Explorer, click in the address box at the top and press Ctrl V (pastes the path)
Now click Go.

This should bring up the dbx files.

Incidentally, my deleted folder is called Deleted Items.dbx

183922 2003-10-18 01:46:00 You should be searching your hard drive. Just point it at the local disk and search from there.

You _may_ need to turn on "show hidden files and folders" which is done in Windows Explorer by going Tools --> Folder Options --> View Tab
--> "show hidden files and folders"

183923 2003-10-18 01:59:00 Further to WFT's tip to enable viewing of hidden files, if you have Win XP, in the Search Criteria click on the down arrow for "More advanced options" and put ticks in "Search system folders", "Search hidden files and folders" and "Search subfolders". That should do the trick. :-) Susan B (19)
