183354 2003-10-21 01:58:00 > Have you had your place checked out by an electrician? Long shot here beet but, maybe your're not getting the quality of power you should be either from the mains or within your own installation.

That is not a stupid idea, I *think* Beetle has mentioned previously that their power was a "bit funny". Unless I am getting confused with that spike they had.

Metla, you must be absolutely tearing at the bit to get your hands on that machine! :p :D

And I have to admit that I would love to see what you can do with it. :D

If you are having trouble saving your work, go buy a box of floppies and save anything critical to A: as well as to your HDD.

Secondly, if there is a friendly PF1 expert nearby offering to help, get him in, if for no other reason but to ensure that you are saving to a reliable location and to stop you tearing your hair out.

This highlights a very good reason why all computer users (or at least those who are not backed by an IT department) actually need to know just a little bit about how their computer works. Otherwise it is like driving a car without knowing what the brakes or accelerator do, or how to turn a corner. You are fine at constant speed on a straight road but any deviation from the straight and narrow has potential for disaster.

If users save documents with blind faith that they will get it back from recent documents etc then they don't know what to do if it goes somewhere else. Just accidentally saving it in a different format can be enought to lose it forever if you don't know how to search for it.

Good luck with your work beetle

Cheers

183361 2003-10-21 02:52:00 Ask for a replacement PC to use while yours is in the workshop ,that way you are safe if it disappear's like the PC Co has ,
I personally would not buy a PC from a department store use someone that has been around for a long while and provides good service eg Ascent.co.nz in Willis street not the cheapest place but very reliable and they know what they are selling and can fix it on site.

183362 2003-10-21 02:56:00 If you are really cheeky ask for your cash back as the goods were not up to a reasonable working standard and threaten to call in Fairgo that always seems to work fear of bad publicity will always get results . kiwibeat (304)
