Yes, that is entirely possible. Faulty RAM can cause all sorts of strange things to happen. If your PC tech can try some other sticks of RAM in your PC that will determine whether it is the cause or not.

Hi beetle

So? So the only warranty you need to worry about is the warranty your computer man has to offer for the work he did for you . If it is not working properly now, then it is his responsibility to fix it .

Obscure hardware faults excepted, if he took your computer, reformatted the HDD & reinstalled your OS and programs then generally set it all up for you, under the Consumer Guarantees Act he is responsible for making it work properly at no extra charge, either that or refunding your money if he doesn't wish to go on .

Under the CGA he is also obliged to do all of this in a reasonable time, which for a computer I would suggest is 5 working days . If he has missed some unusual hardware or software conflict, that is his problem not yours, as he is the one putting himself out for hire as a computer expert .

If he doesn't come to the party soon and do his job, then ask for your money back . If he says he can't help you any more ask for your money back .

If he says he won't give you your money back, show him this thread, and tell him to search PF1 for other CGA threads as there has been a wealth of factual information posted over the past 12-15 months .

Cheers

183346 2003-10-21 00:11:00 ok two things . . . . .
if i manage to track down lost paper work (invoice of when i bought it, its going to auckland for warranty work) pc co warranty is being covered blah blah by someone else, if i can give them info to say i bought it when . . . . they will look at it .

in the mean time i am half way through assignment on that pc, and went to back it up onto disk and all my works stuff is not current it has found . . .
on the disk in other puter its only opening its material so in effect i have not saved it . . . so will try to save to floppy now . . . other wise i may need to retype it all into next puter, printed out rough copy . . .

so am stuffed either way i feel . . . . waiting to hear back from farmers if they can track down any paper work for this machine (when sold etc) cos i bought it with cash so no details other than my lost invoice . (moved house and miss placed heaps of stuff)

he rang the company and they will cover the work, and he will get it there for me .
if i get paper work .

and only 3 assignments due that are not done, and a exam to worry about and cant concentrate with this hanging over me now . . . . .

183348 2003-10-21 00:38:00 Your sending it back under warrenty to a place that failed to fix it,with the help of your computer guy who also never fixed it?

He's obviously incapable of fixing it,At the very least let me chuck a spare stick of ram into you computer to see if it cures the problem before you go sending it away.

Maybe we need to earth you before you touch anything beet ;)

Have you had your place checked out by an electrician? Long shot here beet but, maybe your're not getting the quality of power you should be either from the mains or within your own installation . Just a thought .

183350 2003-10-21 00:44:00 Search in explorer for your files (in C:\) and copy them off to CD or floppy if they'll fit.

Try your most recently used documents lists in the programs used and in Start > Documents.

Let Metla, at the least, have a look at your setup.
