183325 2003-10-20 02:09:00 The program would have been saved to wherever you saved it.
When it extracts it makes a folder at that point called hijackthis.
It would normally put the logfile in that folder.

Whenever you download something, and extract it, always make sure you note down exactly where its putting it, so you can find it again.

Your logfile suggests its in "C:\unzipped\hijackthis\HijackThis.exe"

Looking at the log, it looks OK. I would not expect any nasties to have got in yet, you have AVG looking after you.

Your log shows "reboot.exe" which surprises me, but its OK, and was probably loaded by the Tech when he used the HDD program. It can be left alone.

I also note you have Winzip loaded, which also surprises, as Windows XP doesnt need it, its handled by Windows Explorer. Its unlikely to be causing any problems though.

All up, clean bill of health on that front as I see it.

You need eyes on sticks to see everything in these logs, but they are very useful.

You can put the shirt back on the PC now, health examination over.
Doesn't get you any closer to a fix, sorry.

183327 2003-10-20 03:45:00 Like Godfather says, there is nothing suspicious looking in that list but personally I would be inclined to dump a good many of the items there .

After reading some things about it khooker . exe would be the first to go and I recommend it be disabled .

Other things that can't possibly be essential are all the Works items - surely they are not necessary?

Beetle: go to Start > Run and type in msconfig then click on the Startup tab . Find the khooker . exe item and remove the tick from it . Click OK then when the computer wants to restart, close all your programs firsts (and internet connection, of course) and let it restart .

You may also get some message pop-up warning about the changes you have just done - just use your discretion there because I cannot remember exactly what it says .

See how you go with that first . :-)

Being a Godfather is a much higher qualification than being a Professor you know . ;-)

He has, actually . ;-) :-)

Now now . . . . you wouldn't want all the screeds of initials after your name to be actually credited to someone else, would you? :O :D

183330 2003-10-20 04:29:00 Beetle,what was the "tech's" take on the situation?

Has he any idea at all?...has he given up?

I find it hard to believe that the first thing he didnt do was disable every start up program, even if for a single boot this would have given him a much better insight into the problems.

Has he aproached it from a hardware point of view rather then from a software direction?

All problems are fixable.

183331 2003-10-20 04:42:00 no bloody idea i feel...
no he's ok but i dont seem to be on his wavelenght and im not sure where he is heading.

he hasnt come back to me on the hdd test so he doesnt know it passed but cannot remember if im sposed to ring him or him ring me?

it comes down to he wants to persevere and is convinced itll be covered by warranty, when i have said pc co said its run out of warranty so ?

i dont have a clue and am sick of waiting.
and wish it would either die or be fixed now! LOL
patience is not my strong point when it comes to this puter.

all help is greatly welcomed from pf1 people, and if anything happens or changes youll be the first to know.

and hammers fix all probelms dont they metla?
:p

183332 2003-10-20 04:51:00 I cant speak for him,but when im trobleshooting a system i disable everything in startup that can be disabled and i run the system to see if the problems have gone.

Then i enable the very minimum needed all the while watching to see if the problems re-apear.

If i think a harddrive is falty i chuck in a spare i have with an os on it,to see if the problems show up again,if they do then that means its not windows or harddrive related.

Same goes with ram, powersupply and all the rest, first i ensure the software enviorment is healthy then i attack the hardware.all a matter of elimination.

Never had a computer i wasn't able to fix yet.

Junked a few when the costs outweighed the value of the pc,but thats an entirely different story.

I find that hardware tests such as ram testers, burn tests and ram testers take far too long to pinpoint the problem and miss them half the time anyway.

Am i rambling?...i think im rambling.
