184256 2003-10-17 10:05:00 Hi, I recently got the Powershot A70. I used the "Canon Digital Camera: Solution Disk" ver 8.0 to install software and drivers. Followed the directions and I hooked the camera up to the USB and turned the camera on to play mode.

The computer (Windows XP) detected it successfully, but it could not install a driver or something.

The installation wizard error:
"The class installer has denied the request to install or upgrade this device."

Device Manager listing:
"The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)"

I have downloaded drivers and looked through the CD. However, one thing I noticed was that the drivers on the CD were located in a folder called "Win_2k98\camera3\" and the file was cannondc3.inf. I have Windows XP, so is this what the problem is? I got it last week so it should support XP...

184258 2003-10-17 10:39:00 Yes thanks sinclair, I did follow the instructions and downloaded the WIA driver but still the same thing. Could it be my XP gone crazy? cos as i recall it works a few months back. amijinx (4450)
184259 2003-10-17 10:42:00 i've not got experience in this, but if driver is installed then it should work...
maybe uninstall everything you've installed regarding this camera and restart then install the wia and restart and it might work...

if it doesnt, maybe just wait till the NZ game is finished and you might get some better help...

it will work evenutally since the website mentions its compatiable...so maybe try the method i just mentioned..

184260 2003-10-17 11:14:00 You are logged into the xp machine as an administrator.
This will make a difference as a non administrators do not have sufficient user rights to write to system folders.
Oh the 2k driver should be fine, I have used 2k drivers on xp machines when a xp driver could not be found. Not for this camera though.

184261 2003-10-17 11:16:00 yes, I'm in as Administrator. I'm worried that it may be due to some program I installed last time b4 hell broke loose. Currently I upload my photos on my win98 and then transfer them back to winxp but i'm selling win98 now, so need a solution asap.

184262 2003-10-17 11:34:00 I checked the micosoft tech' site for this error code
quote "The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28) To install the drivers for this device, click Update Driver, which starts the Hardware Update wizard." unquote have tried this ( I think you said you did) xp will detect the usb device but may need a help in locating the drivers for it.
good luck and as someone else said earlier keep watching this space(thread)
