| 184308 | 2003-10-17 23:25:00 | I am outting together a system and would like suggestions of businesses that can supply components at reasonable prices, offer good back-up and are good to deal with. I want to ask them to quote on a list of commponents, maybe put them in the case, and I will install the O/S and set it up. I live in Tauranga and would either collect the system from the supplier (Auck or Ham) or get them to freight it. I have looked at QMB's packages as a starting point and wonder if anyone has recommendations of good service with QMB? Thanks J :D |

| 184312 | 2003-10-18 01:19:00 | wow, I emailed QMB with some enquiries and their response was quick. Ascent seems highly priced. Rather than getting all from different sources it would be nice to deal with one place. I have also looked on www.pcsale.co.nz. Heard of them? ok, next part of the puzzle. What video card? Currently struggling on a tnt2 64. Would like a 8 x AGP for gaming. I hear people mention the ti4200 cards (QMB's price 219.00 plus GST)? What about FX5200 (QMB $155.00 plus GST)? Thanks guys for you advice so far J :D |

If the parts they ship work you should be sweet, if they don't they are extremely difficult to deal with. I deal almost exclusively with Ascent now, their customer service is second to none, it's worth the occasional higher price for the support behind it. |

| 184315 | 2003-10-18 02:33:00 | the fx5200 is a terrible card,avoid it like the plauge. If your budget covers it get a ati9600pro or otherwise get a g4ti4200. |

| 184316 | 2003-10-18 02:39:00 | what metla said, i wouldnt touch any of the new Geforce FX line. If you can find one(thats a big if) a Radeon 9700non-pro would a awsome buy. ATI has just released the 9800XT & 9600XT so it may be worth waiting a while atleast they will force the prices down on current cards. A Radeon 9800non-pro may be worth looking at if it fits ur budget. | Pete O'Neil (250) | ||

Call it laziness, call it not wanting to find out that the bits I get don't fit in the case (screw holes don't match up etc), call it impatience lol. Metla - thanks for the heads up on the 5200. Many stores include it in their specs, but I was wary for some reason (intuition?) I recall reading on other forums that the ti's are good, hence the question :) |
