184595 2003-10-19 00:18:00 Yesterdays news from M$! Winter in US=Jan 2004 here at earliest?

Is this the beginning of charging for ALL Hot-mail users?

MSN Hotmail Extra Storage is changing this winter. MSN are opening new subscription based services for those wanting extra storage for their Hotmail accounts. 4 New options have been revealed for MSN Hotmail customers. The MSN Hotmail Extra Storage 10MB, 25MB, 50MB and 100MB. Each subscription is anual and contains the ability to send larger attachments, access to the Hotmail mailbox via Outlook or Outlook Express, exemption from the account expiration policy, and 30 MB of MSN Groups storage. Each subscription also comes with its relevant amount of Hotmail space.

The prices of each service are layed out below:

MSN Hotmail Extra Storage 10MB = yearly subscription of $19.95 plus tax
MSN Hotmail Extra Storage 25MB = yearly subscription of $29.95 plus tax
MSN Hotmail Extra Storage 50MB = yearly subscription of $39.95 plus tax
MSN Hotmail Extra Storage 100MB = yearly subscription of $59.95 plus tax

Update:
MSN9 subscribers will get 25MB of Extra Storage and will be able to send up to 10MB attachments. Also, access to hotmail via Outlook/Outlook Express is likely to be blocked if you're not a subscriber.

Cheers,Kiwitas,;-)

I'm sure they would be absolutely mortified to lose thousands of customers who don't pay a cent for the use of the service. Bill Gates will be in receivership in no time if they start "losing" hotmail "customers".

Most Yahoo! addresses are no longer accessible by POP either. All yahoo.com and .com.au addresses are http only. I wouldn't be surprised if the .co.nz addresses go the same way soon.

Heaven forbid people have to pay for an e-mail address.

Too right!! The only reason I have a Hotmail address is to sign up for accounts around the web that will probably deal me a huge influx in spam .

Actually that's not quite true - I also use it for corresponding to strangers until I know them well enough to trust them with my "real" email addy . :D

Regarding the spam: imagine the outcry on the day they try and make us pay for an email address just to receive all the junk we don't want and didn't ask for . Mailwasher shares will go through the roof then . :D

I don't use hotmail or yahoo but I certainley pay for waht I do have. The price is built in to my ISP's charges and my domain host's charges for my various addy's.

You can still get POP email from Yahoo, it's just not as obvious as it used to be. It's certainly still there for me Swedish Yahoo account, but I signed up for another email account recently just to test out what you've said (Someone else said it here a couple of months ago) and it was still quite available, although not as easy to find as it used to be. Although I guess this might have changed in the last month, but I doubt it.

184604 2003-10-19 03:52:00 Umm I think it depends on the domain of the address.

.com addresses definitely can't be accessed by POP unless you pay for the premium service. .co.nz ones definitely can be accessed by POP without any extra expense.

If you do have a way of accessing .com addresses by POP I'd be most interested.
