184745 2003-10-19 09:44:00 why dont u find it each time u get a number instead of scaning the whollllllllllllllle book.......

say today u got this number ******* so then u look for the geographical location of that number but it would be handier to know surname first too...or u be there forever....

and did u know its online too...search for surname and location and u get a list of results on www.whitepages.co.nz maybe that would help?

184746 2003-10-19 09:51:00 What business are you in? If you have provided credit in the past, then surely you would have the relevant details already?

Thought about using trade references, etc?

Lo.

184747 2003-10-19 10:15:00 hi ya
have you tried the internet white pages ? as they are usually update? but you wont get unlisted numbers that way,

maybe you could short cut it or favourite and have in-stant access to it.
it is quite reliable, i use it quite often.

184748 2003-10-19 10:54:00 Even with White Pages on the Internet, you cannot reverse look-up to obtain an address from a number.

You can buy the directory on CD, for $85.00.
I am fairly sure you will not be able to reverse engineer that either, but its cheaper than hand entering into an industrial size (and cost) database.

Scanning and OCR would require a very expensive scanner to get close to the accuracy needed, if you ever could that is, and take a l-o-n-g time.

I have used credit collection agencies, and suggest they are far cheaper in the long run.
Its not your kneecaps at risk from the baseball bat that way...

184750 2003-10-19 20:09:00 Hi
I might have to pay someone to input the data if scanning wont work
Good luck to that. I once worked on a project where we employed a team to load over 2 million records by hand. A straight run single load generated more than a 9% error rate - nearly 200,000 errors. A duplicate entry of the same data by another operator reduced this dramatically but of course doubles your costs.

184751 2003-10-20 01:29:00 Thanks Godfather thats a good idea I will buy the directory on CD and reverse engineer it to get addresses.

thanks tedheath

184752 2003-10-20 02:50:00 Anyone else remember "UBD"? They used to publish books which listed every streed address, with the residents' names, and teklephone numbers in numerical sequence withj the names and addresses. Graham L (2)
184753 2003-10-20 03:21:00 Yes we used them all the time when I worked for NAC freight.

Become defunct with the Privacy Act and concerns over burglary.

184754 2003-10-20 03:38:00 NAC like National Airways Corp Friendships and stuff?
I am not worried about the privacy act. Customers who don't pay their bills forgo all rights in my book.
